Cal State Northridge completed its 50th season of intercollegiate basketball competition, and finished the season with an overall record of 20-10 ... It was the third time in the tenure of head coach Bobby Braswell that the Matadors finished the season with 20 wins or more ... The 20 wins included a six-game winning streak ... The 13-3 record to start the season was the team's best start since the 1981-82 campaign ... Cal State Northridge finished the 2007-08 regular season in the Top 25 in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major poll.

Conference Chatter ...
Cal State Northridge captured its first Big West regular season title - shared or outright - with a 12-4 mark ... The 12 wins tied the school record (12-6 in 2004-05).

Television Time ...
Cal State Northridge was on television a school record eight times ... That included games on ESPNU and Fox Sports Prime Ticket.

Attendance Analysis ...
Attendance at The Matadome increased dramatically during the 2007-08 season ... Eight of the largest crowds since the 1999-00 season attended a Cal State Northridge game in 2007-08.

Bobby Braswell, the 2007-08 Big West Coach of the Year, completed his 12th season as head coach at Cal State Northridge in 2007-08 ... Braswell has coached 355 games in his duties as head coach, and has produced a record of 188-167 (.530) ... Braswell has guided Cal State Northridge to postseason play in each of his 12 seasons, reaching the conference tournament championship game on four occasions ... In past seasons under Braswell, the Matadors have prided themselves on tough defense and a productive offense ... This year, the Matadors forced the opponents in 557 turnovers, produced 274 steals (#1 in the Big West, #15 in the nation), and outrebounded the opposition, 1,113-1,092 ... Braswell's teams have been ranked in the Top 25 in steals nationally in eleven of the last 12 seasons ... The Matadors were #1 in field goal percentage defense (.419), rebounding (37.1 rpg), defensive rebounds (25.5), blocked shots (3.2 bpg), steals (9.2 spg, #15 in the nation) and 3-point field goal percentage (.307), and #2 in scoring (78.0 ppg), offensive rebounds (11.6 oprg), assists (15.2 apg), and scoring margin (+6.9) ... Tremaine Townsend (Second Team All-Big West) and Jonathan Heard (First Team All-Big West) were first and ninth in the Big West in rebounding (9.8 rpg, 5.5 rpg) ... Townsend became the first Matador player in school history to lead the conference in rebounding ... Townsend was #1 in defensive rebounds (7.3 drpg) and third in offensive rebounds (2.4 oprg) ... Deon Tresvant (Second Team All-Big West) was third in three-point goals per game (2.8), sixth in 3-point field goal percentage (.413) and tenth in scoring (13.9 ppg).

Defensive Data ...
Cal State Northridge improved its defense in 2007-08 ... The Matadors held the opposition to only .419 percent shooting (#1 in the Big West) and forced the opposition into 557 turnovers in 30 games ... Cal State Northridge collected 274 steals (#1 in the Big West) ... In only five games this year did the opposition shoot 50 percent or better from the floor ... In only three games did the opposition hit 40 percent or better from three-point range.

Scoring Story ...
Five players averaged in double figures, four players shot .512 or better, and three players shot 39 percent or better from 3-point territory.

Rebounding Raves ...
Rebounding vastly improved for Cal State Northridge over the past three seasons ... During the 2005-06 campaign, CSUN ranked last in the Big West, but improved to second-best last year, and finished first in the Big West averaging 37.1 rebounds per game ... The Matadors broke the four year stranglehold on the rebound title held by Cal State Fullerton ... Four CSUN players averaged 4.4 or more rebounds per game, including a conference-leading 9.8 rebounds per game by junior center Tremaine Townsend (Second Team All-Big West) while Jonathan Heard (First Team All-Big West) was ninth in rebounding (5.5 rpg) ... Townsend's 22 rebounds at UC Davis (2/9/08) was a Big West best in 2007-08 ... In fact, Townsend's 22 rebounds, Calvin Chitwood's (Honorable Mention All-Big West) 18 rebounds vs Chicago State (11/10/07), and Townsend's 16 rebounds vs Cal State Fullerton (3/16/08), 15 rebounds at Cleveland St. (11/28/07) and 14 vs Utah Valley State (12/5/07) were the five of the six best rebounding efforts in the Big West this year .. Townsend became the first player in school history to lead the league in rebounding.

Senior Salute ...
Experience counts ... Two reasons for CSUN's success this year were the play of seniors Jonathan Heard (First Team All-Big West) and Calvin Chitwood (Honorable Mention All-Big West) ... Heard averaged 11.4 points and 5.5 rebounds per game while Chitwood checked in at 10.7 points and 4.7 rpg ... In four seasons, Chitwood and Heard played in 230 games (163 as starters) and combined for 2,532 points and 1,020 rebounds.

Matador Memo ...
Cal State Northridge showed an ability to fight back from behind in several games to win ... Five of CSUN's 20 wins were comeback affairs after being down by eight points or more ... At UC Santa Barbara (1/5/08), the Matadors battled back from a 13-point second half deficit to win, 88-84 ... At UC Riverside (1/16/08), the Matadors were down by ten points in the first half, only to come back to score a four-point win, 66-62 ... In the season opener vs Chicago State (11/10/07), the Matadors battled back from a ten-point second half deficit to post a 96-85 win ... At Utah Valley State (12/28/07), CSUN scored a 73-65 win after being down by nine points ... At Cleveland State (11/28/07), the Matadors were facing an eight-point deficit but came back to score a 78-68 victory.

Depth Dialogue ...
There is no doubt the team's talented depth contributed to the team's success in 2007-08 ... Nine players averaged 14.3 minutes or more ... A key reserve, Deon Tresvant (Second Team All-Big West), averaged 26.1 minutes per game ... Tresvant was CSUN's leading scorer (13.9 ppg, #10 in the Big West) ... No reserve in school history had ever led the team in scoring until this year ... The last reserve to average in double figures previous to this year was Gerald Rhoden during the 1996-97 season when he averaged 11.4 ppg.

Team Talk ...
In seven games, the Matadors scored 92 points or more ... The 40 field goals vs Vanguard was a Big West best in (2007-08). ... The 39-point victory (100-61) over Long Beach State (1/26/08) was the second largest margin of victory over a Big West school in the 46-year history of The Matadome ... The 100 points vs Long Beach State (1/26/008) was the 69th time in school history that CSUN had scored 100 or more points in a game.

Jonathan Heard (First Team All-Big West) broke the school record with 120 games played during his four seasons at Cal State Northridge ... Tremaine Townsend (Second Team All-Big West) set a school record with 37 blocks ... Calvin Chitwood's (Honorable Mention All-Big West) six blocks at UW (12/22/07) was a school record and a Big West season-best (2007-08) ... Home Hoopla ...
