Game Gossip ... "It's time" ... The words are few, but they loom large ... Cal State Northridge head coach Bobby Braswell has been reminding the Matadors that "it's time" ... Three more Big West games awaits CSUN (19-7 overall, 11-2 BWC), including another tough assignment on the road at UC Irvine (13-14 overall, 7-6 BWC) on Saturday (3/1/08, 8:30 p.m.) ... According to ESPN Bracketology (2/29/08), if the NCAA Tournament was to start today, CSUN would be a 14th seed and would play Stanford (#3 seed) at the Anaheim Regional ... The Matadors are 16th in the Mid-Major poll (2/18/08).

Television Time ... Two of the next three regular season games will be televised ... The Mar. 1 game at UC Irvine has been added to the television schedule by Fox Sports Prime Ticket ... Paul Sunderland and Mike Montgomery will handle the broadcast chores ... Tipoff at the Bren Center is slated for 8:30 p.m. ... The Mar. 8 home season finale against Cal Poly will also be televised on Fox Sports Prime Ticket ... Game time is 5:00 p.m.

Series Story ... Cal State Northridge will meet UC Irvine for the 40th time in school history with the Anteaters holding a 20-19 advantage ... Earlier this year (1/31/08) at The Matadome, Cal State Northridge beat back a tough challenge from the Anteaters to record a 69-64 decision ... The Matador defense held UC Irvine to .377 shooting, out rebounded the visitors, 36-31, and collected 30 deflections. "I was proud of the guys for their defensive effort," said head coach Bobby Braswell. "We didn't shoot the ball extremely well, but we did what we needed to do to win." ... Josh Jenkins led Matador scorers with 15 points and seven assists ... Jayme Miller recorded his second straight double-digit scoring effort with eleven points along with a team-high nine rebounds ... Tremaine Townsend also added nine rebounds.

Coaches Corner ... Bobby Braswell is in his 12th season as head coach at Cal State Northridge ... Braswell has coached 351 games in his duties as head coach, and has produced a record of 187-164 (.533) ... Braswell has guided Cal State Northridge to postseason play in each of his previous eleven seasons, reaching the conference tournament championship game on four occasions ... In past seasons under Braswell, the Matadors have prided themselves on tough defense and a productive offense ... Last year, the Matadors led the Big West Conference in rebounding margin (+6.9) and steals (8.97) ... Already this year, the Matadors have forced the opponents in 501 turnovers, produced 250 steals (#1 in the Big West, #8 in the nation), and have outrebounded the opposition, 984-953 ... Braswell's teams have been ranked in the Top 25 in steals nationally in ten of the last eleven seasons ... Defensive Data ... Cal State Northridge has showed signs of an improved defense in 2007-08 ... The Matadors have held the opposition to only .410 percent shooting (#1 in the Big West) and has forced the opposition into 501 turnovers in 26 games ... In the last nine games,, the opposition has shot .391 (191-for-489) from the floor ... Cal State Northridge has collected 250 steals (#1 in the Big West) ... In only three games this year has the opposition shot 50 percent or better from the floor ... In only three games has the opposition hit 40 percent or better from three-point territory.

Rebounding Raves ... Rebounding has vastly improved for Cal State Northridge in the last three seasons ... During the 2005-06 campaign, CSUN ranked last in the Big West, but improved to second-best last year, and are currently first in the Big West averaging 37.8 rebounds per game compared to 36.7 rpg for the opposition ... The Matadors are trying to break the four year stranglehold on the rebound title held by Cal State Fullerton ... Four CSUN players are averaging 4.5 or more rebounds per game, including a conference-leading 9.6 rebounds per game by junior center Tremaine Townsend ... Senior all-conference candidates Jonathan Heard and Calvin Chitwood are seventh and 15th (6.0 rpg, 4.7 rpg) in rebounding, respectively ... Townsend's 22 rebounds at UC Davis (2/9/08) is a Big West best in 2007-08 ... Senior Salute ... Experience counts ... Two reasons for CSUN's success this year have been the play of seniors Jonathan Heard and Calvin Chitwood, all-conference candidates ... Heard is averaging 11.8 points and 6.0 rebounds per game whle Chitwood checks in at 10.7 points and 4.7 rpg ... In four seasons, Chitwood and Heard have played in 220 games (158 as starters) and have combined for 2,455 points and 991 rebounds.

Matador Memo ... Cal State Northridge has shown an ability to fight back from behind in several games to win ... Five of CSUN's 18 wins have been comeback affairs after being down by eight points or more ... At UC Santa Barbara (1/5/08), the Matadors battled back from a 13-point second half deficit to win, 88-84 ... At UC Riverside (1/16/08), the Matadors were down by ten points in the first half, only to comeback to score a four-point win, 66-62 ... In the season opener vs Chicago State (11/10/07), the Matadors battled back from a ten-point second half deficit to post a 96-85 win ... At Utah Valley State (12/28/07), CSUN scored a 73-65 win after being down by nine points ... At Cleveland State (11/28/07), the Matadors were facing an eight-point deficit but came back to score a 78-68 victory.

Depth Dialogue ... There is no doubt the team's talented depth has contributed to the team's success in 2007-08 ... Eight players are averaging 14.2 minutes or more ... A key reserve, Deon Tresvant, is averaging 25.6 minutes per game ... Tresvant is CSUN's leading scorer (13.2 ppg, #10 in the Big West) ... No reserve in school history has ever led the team in scoring ... That could happen this year with Tresvant ...
