NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - The Cal State Northridge men's basketball team will play the University of Idaho Vandals as part of ESPN's annual "BracketBusters". The Vandals and Matadors will face off Feb. 21 at the Cowan Spectrum at 7:05 p.m. PT.
At 9-10 overall and 6-3 in the Big West Conference, Northridge enters the week a half-game behind 6-2 Long Beach State for first place in the Big West. Senior Josh Jenkins, who earned Co-Big West Player of the Week honors on Monday, helped lead the Matadors to a pair of road victories last week. Northridge won at UCSB, 72-70, and at Cal Poly, 79-68.
The Vandals are currently 10-11 overall, including an 8-2 record at home, and 4-4 in the WAC. Mac Hopson leads the team in scoring at 16.9 points while shooting 47.7 percent from the field and 48.6 percent from 3-point range. He is also averaging 5.0 rebounds and 6.0 assists.
Kashif Watkins is the other Vandal in double-figures, averaging 11.0 points per game. As a team, Idaho shoots 46.3 percent from the field and averages 31.5 rebounds per game. The Vandals have won two of their last three games, including a 63-59 decision over Boise State on Jan. 29.
Idaho will make a return trip to Northridge next season. The two teams have not met since the 2005-06 season and Cal State Northridge holds a 5-3 overall record in the series. CSUN took the last game in the series, 59-54, in Moscow on Feb. 12, 2005.
