Irvine, Calif. - Rashaun McLemore - Please stand up and accept the applause.
The 6-foot-5 senior guard/forward is this week's Big West Men's Basketball Player of the Week.
Showing no ill effects from a knee strain that caused him to miss two games, McLemore shined in a reserve role to lead the Matadors to a pair of impressive conference road victories at UC Irvine (66-62, 1/27/11) and at UC Santa Barbara (70-69, 1/29/11).
McLemore's efforts propelled Cal State Northridge into sole possession of second place in the Big West Conference at 5-3.
In 23 minutes at UC Irvine, McLemore posted 15 points and five rebounds. McLemore hit a game-winning three-point bank shot with 22 seconds remaining to give CSUN a 63-59 lead. McLemore added a free throw with seven seconds remaining to put the Matadors up 64-59.
McLemore played an incredibly productive 17 minutes at UC Santa Barbara, the pre-season conference favorite. McLemore delivered a career-high 26 points (23 points in the second half) on 4-of-7 shooting from three-point territory and a 10-of-13 effort from the free throw line. The four 3-pointers and ten free throws were also career-highs.
With six seconds to play and CSUN leading UCSB, 68-66, McLemore swiped a Gaucho out-of-bound pass and hit the ensuing two free throws after he was fouled. He had earlier made two free throws with 13 seconds left to increase CSUN's lead to 68-63.
McLemore will lead Cal State Northridge to games at UC Riverside (2/3/05, 7:00 p.m.) and at home against UC Irvine (2/5/11, 7:05 p.m.).
