IRVINE (AP)--Freshman Eric Wise scored 16 of his 18 points in the second half Wednesday to lead UC Irvine to a 73-51 victory over Cal State Northridge.
Wise went 0-for-3 in the first half, but scored eight of Irvine?s first 11 points and went 6-for-8 from the field in the second.
Brett Lauer scored all 15 of his points with first-half 3-pointers for the Anteaters (9-17, 6-7 Big West Conference), who never trailed after he made it 3-2 with his first basket.
Michael Hunter had 13 points with five steals and Patrick Rembert added 13 points.
Northridge (12-11, 8-4) got as close as six at 27-21 with 6:03 left in the first half, but Irvine went on a 12-4 run to end the half with a 41-25 lead.
The Anteaters opened the second half with a 14-6 run to build a 24-point lead, and the Matadors would get no closer than 22.
Rodrigue Mels led the Matadors with 10 points.
