Bakersfield, Calif. - Another close game, nothing tough loss.
This scenario reared its ugly head again on Wednesday night as Cal State Northridge suffered a crushing 59-57 last second loss to Cal State Bakersfield at Rabobank Arena.
The Matadors have now played in seven games decided by three points or less.
Cal State Northridge fought back from a 30-21 halftime lead to tie the game with 2:07 to play on a Lenny Daniel bucket.
With seconds drifting away on the clock, Cal State Bakersfield missed a shot, but in a wild scramble, the Roadrunners grabbed the ball back and called time out with three seconds remaining.
Following the timeout, the clock headed towards zero, CSUB guard Trent Blakely broke free at the top of the key to drill a two-point basket to give the Roadrunners its sixth win of the year against 17 losses.
Cal State Northridge fell to 9-15 overall.
The Matadors were down by double-digits most of the first half, but Raymond Cody's seven straight points late in the first stanza helped cut the CSUB lead to 30-21 at the break.
Then Kenny Daniels put the Matadors on his shoulders in the second half. Daniels scored 20 of his game-high 24 points in the second half.
Cal State Bakersfield led 55-50 with 2:40 left in the game. Then things got really interesting.
Back came Cal State Northridge. A Willie Galick dunk made it 55-52 at 2:31 and then a jumper and free throw by Daniels tied the game at 55-55.
Santwon Latunde's two free throws made it 57-55 in favor of CSUB.
Back again CSUN marched. A jumper by Lenny Daniel tied the game at 57-57 with 20 ticks on the clock.
Raymond Cody celebrated his 21st birthday with eleven points ... Cal State Northridge still has one more non-league game to play during the 2009-10 season ...
