Damany Hendrix joins the Men’s basketball staff at CalState Northridge after several years at the high school level andthree years of coaching at the NAIA level. This is Hendrix’sfirst year at the Division I level and he is excited to be joininga great staff here at Northridge.
Hendrix joins the staff after having coached under Brian Rooney atCalifornia State University at the Maritime Academy in Vallejo,California. Under Coach Rooney the Keelhaulers have won theconference regular season title three of the last four years,including an undefeated season, and have won the conferencetournament the past two seasons. The Keelhaulers won a game in theopening round, which had never been done by any team from theCALPAC.
Prior to coaching at the Maritime Academy, Hendrix coached one ofthe top AAU teams in the country in the Oakland Soldiers. In 2010,the Oakland Soldiers were a consensus top 3 team in the country,having finished in the top 4 teams in the EYBL and winning twonational tournaments led by Hendrix. Over his 5 years coaching withthe Soldiers, Hendrix won several National tournaments and coachedover 20 Division 1 signees, including 3 McDonaldsAll-Americans.
Hendrix is also known as one of the best skill developmenttrainers in Northern California. He established Bridge BuilderBasketball LLC, a skill development company that fostered educationand character through basketball. Hendrix became a philanthropistin his hometown of Vallejo, Ca and still mentors many high schooland college athletes.
Hendrix was the leading scorer on a 32-2 Vallejo High School teamand began his college career at Gonzaga University as a redshirt.He then transferred to Santa Rosa Junior College where he was anAll-State Selection, and after receiving his Associated Degree hethen transferred to Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas to play forMike Deane where he was a 2 time All-Southland selection. Hendrixreceived his Bachelor’s Degree in 2003 where he majored inGeneral Studies.
