Dayton, Oh. - Amir Garrett, who is expected to be one of the top players on the 2014-15 CSUN men's basketball team, is a rare two-sport athlete who also pitches professionally in the Cincinnati Reds organization.
Garrett, a left-handed pitcher, will be the starting pitcher tonight for the Dayton Dragons (Midwest League, Class A) when the Dragons host the first place South Bend Silver Hawks.
Game time is 4:05 pm (Pacific time); 7:05 pm (Eastern time).

Garrett, a 6-foot-6, 210-pound junior, redshirted last year at CSUN after transferring from St. John's University in New York.
Garrett played two seasons (2011-12, 2012-13) at St. John's University. During the 2012-13 season, Garrett helped the team to the second round of the NIT (National Invitation Tournament).
Garrett hails from Los Angeles where he played as a junior at Leuzinger High School in Lawndale. Garrett then transferred to Findlay Prep (Henderson, Nv) for his senior season where he averaged 12.3 points and 5.7 rebounds per game on a team that went 28-4 and earned a Top-20 national ranking.
In June, 2011, Garrett was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds, and eventually signed in August (2011) to a contract along with a one million dollar bonus. The contract allowed him to play collegiate basketball.
Garrett started his professional career with Billings (Mt) in the Pioneer League in the summer of 2012. He also played for Billings in 2013, and was later promoted to Dayton in the Midwest League.
In June (2014), Garrett posted a record of 2-0 with a 2.70 earned run average in five starts. In 26.2 innings, Garrett allowed 19 hits with four walks and 24 strikeouts. For his efforts, Garrett was named the Dayton Dragons Pitcher of the Month. Wednesday night, Garrett was honored during an inning break of the Dragons 5-4 winning effort against first place South Bend.
For the season, Garrett has pitched in 17 games (all as a starter) with a 3-4 record and a 4.00 era. He has pitched 81 innings with 64 strikeouts.
In his last ten games, Garrett has chalked up a 3-1 record with a 2.91 era. That included a complete game, three-hit shutout against Bowling Green on June 11.
