Cal State Northridge Falls to Cal Poly, 62-55

Northridge, Calif. – Stephen Maxwell scored 18 points and three other Cal State Northridge players scored in double figures but timely baskets by Cal Poly were enough to hand the Matadors a 62-55 defeat in a Big West Conference men's basketball game on Thursday night at the Matadome.

Stephan Hicks added 12 points and six rebounds while Tre Hale-Edmerson and Josh Greene each scored ten points.

Chris Eversley
 led the Mustangs with 17 points and 13 rebounds.

CSUN fell to 12-14 overall, and 4-7 in the Big West Conference. Cal Poly raised its season record to 9-14 overall and 5-5 in league play.

Cal Poly led the entire game. A Michael Bolden three-pointer gave the Mustangs their biggest lead of the first half, 19-9.

Cal State Northridge cut the Mustang lead to three points, 41-38, with 14:06 remaining in the game, but a 10-2 Cal Poly run gave the visitors an eleven point lead, 51-40, their biggest lead of the game with 8:37 remaining.

The Matadors got within two points, 57-55, with 2:06 to play. But five straight points extended the lead for Cal Poly.

Final Score – Cal Poly 62, Cal State Northridge 55.

Saturday afternoon, Cal State Northridge travels to UC Santa Barbara. Game time is 4:00 pm.

Stephan Hicks tallied four free throws to give him 377 career charity tosses, second-best in the Matador record book, just ahead of Ian Boylan (376, 2001-05) … Tre Hale-Edmerson collected four blocks against the Mustangs to give him 79 in his two-year career, third all-time in school history, and only three short of the school record of 82 set by Thomas Shewmake (2003-07) and Lenny Daniel (2009-11).
