Northridge, Calif. – When Markus Carr's name appeared on the nomination list last December for possible induction into the CSUN Hall of Fame, the vote was unanimous.
... Long overdue.
The eight-person committee, without any discussion, voted Carr into the Matador Hall of Fame.
Carr, arguably the greatest point-guard in the 56-year history of CSUN basketball, will join Lisa Erickson (softball), Tereza Simonyan (women's tennis) and Cliff Abel (head coach – track & field) as the 2014 inductees into the CSUN Hall of Fame during induction ceremonies on February 9 at the Warner Center Marriott Hotel in Woodland Hills.
Carr, Erickson, Simonyan and Abel will join more than 200 members of the CSUN Hall of Fame.
"I had a great run (as a player) and as part of a great team (2000-01)," said Carr, who lives in Vienna, Austria.
Carr played four seasons at CSUN (1998-02) where his name is heavily peppered throughout the Matador basketball record book. Carr played in 119 games, and dished out a school record 767 assists. The career assist mark is a school record that may never be broken.
Carr's name appears in the CSUN record book 34 times.
Carr helped the Matadors to its first appearance in the NCAA Tournament as an NCAA Division I member.
"We came together as a team," remembers Carr. "We decided we wanted to be good. We wanted to be on the next level. Off the court, we looked out after each other. We always made sure everybody went to class and got whatever we need, whether it was just a ride or food, anything. We just jelled in that type of way."
The Hall of Fame reception at the Warner Center Marriott Hotel in Woodland Hills is scheduled for 11:00 am followed by Lunch and the Induction Ceremony at Noon. Tickets are $60 person and $600 table of ten.
