Irvine, Calif. – The Cal State Northridge men's and women's basketball teams will receive added valuable national exposure with four games on ESPN3.
CSUN's men's basketball team will be the receipt of three of those four games.
The Big West Conference has announced ESPN3 will provide national coverage of the Jan. 9 conference men's home opener between UC Davis and Cal State Northridge. Tipoff at the Matadome will be 7:00 pm. Two nights later on Jan. 11, CSUN hosts the University of Hawai'i on ESPN 3 on the Matadors home court. Tipoff time will be announced at a later date.
The third ESPN3 men's basketball game will be on Jan. 30 when UC Riverside visits CSUN at the Matadome. Game time at the Matadome is slated for 7:00 pm.
The Matador women's basketball game will be available on ESPN3 on Jan. 22 when Cal State Northridge visits UC Irvine. Tipoff is 4:00 pm.
Dr. Brandon Martin, CSUN's Director of Intercollegiate Athletics, welcomes the added national exposure both CSUN basketball teams will receive from ESPN3.
"National exposure by ESPN3 for both CSUN men's and women's basketball is huge for both programs," remarked Dr. Martin. "These national television games speak volumes for the positive direction of the men's and women's basketball programs at CSUN. These games will be highly entertaining for our fans and supporters."
ESPN3 is ESPN's live multi-screen sports network accessible online at WatchESPN.com, on smartphones and tablets via the WatchESPN app, and streamed on televisions through Xbox, Apple TV and Roku. It is available in more than 85 million households nationwide at no additional cost to fans who receive their high speed internet connection or video subscription from an affiliated provider.
Two other CSUN men's basketball games are also on the docket as candidates for "Wild Card" games. They include CSUN at UC Riverside on Mar. 1 (7:00 pm) either on ESPN2, ESPNU or ESPN3. Long Beach State at Cal State Northridge on Mar. 6 (7:00 pm) will also be under consideration on ESPN3. ESPN will make its selections three-to-four weeks prior to the event.
In addition, Cal State Northridge men's basketball will be featured on Prime Ticket in two games during the 2013-14 season. Both Matador games on Prime Ticket will be played at the Matadome. On Jan. 18, CSUN hosts UC Santa Barbara at 7:30 p.m. On Feb. 22, CSUN hosts UC Irvine in a 7:30 pm contest.
"The television exposure speaks to the increasing credibility and excitement of Matador basketball," said Dr. Martin.
