NORTHRIDGE, Calif. -

For the second consecutive season, the incoming recruiting class for the Cal State Northridge baseball team was ranked as the 40th-best group in the nation according to Collegiate Baseball.

"Being ranked in the top-40 for two years in a row is a unique distinction for any university in Division-I baseball. to have consecutive recruiting classes mentioned by the same publication is an indication of how far our program has come in the recruiting process," stated Assistant Coach/Recruiting Coordinator Mark Kertenian.

Last season, the Matadors were also ranked #40, a distinction they share with their rivals from Long Beach on this year's list. Other Big West Conference schools that gained the attention from the publication were Cal State Fullerton (#5) and UC Irvine (#31).

"We are very excited about the players who are in our program; to succeed, especially in the Big West Conference we need to recruit the right players with the proper skills, talent, and characteristics to represent our program. Now we are working very hard to further enhance the potential of our returning players and incoming recruits in an effort to create a high-caliber team that can can consistently perform at a high level."

In total, 15 new recruits will contend for playing time on Head Coach Steve Rousey's squad, an incoming class comprised of ten freshman and five junior college transfers.

"I would like to thank Collegiate Baseball for recognizing the talents of our players on a yearly basis. There are a lot of top-quality teams on their list, being named amongst the best programs in the nation provides further validation that we are doing things the right way at Cal State Northridge."

The 2010 season will begin on February 19th when the Matadors travel to Compton, Calif. to face Bethune-Cookman in the Major League Baseball Urban Invitational.
