NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - Ryan Pineda was named Big West Co-Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday. A junior originally from Las Vegas, Nev., Pineda batted .429 in the Matadors' three games last week, including a walk-off two-run home run in CSUN's 7-6 victory over Pepperdine on Feb. 28.
In addition to the average and home run, Pineda added four stolen bases, four runs scored and three RBIs. He now leads the team in hits (12), runs scored (11), home runs (2), total bases (22) and RBIs (9). He also has five stolen bases and is batting .414 for the season.
Pineda shared the award with Long Beach State's Steve Tinoco.
Pineda and the Matadors return to action Friday when Northridge hosts Connecticut in a four-game series at Matador Field. First pitch Friday between the Matadors and Huskies is slated for 2 p.m. The teams will also play Saturday, Sunday and Monday afternoon at Matador Field.
