NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - The baseball game that was suspended Tuesday evening vs. UCLA will be resumed prior to the teams' next meeting, it was announced Wednesday. The game will be resumed at 4:30 on April 15th in the bottom of the eighth inning with the Matadors trailing 22-2.
Appropriately, the game will be finished at Jackie Robinson Stadium. Tuesday's match-up was scheduled to be played on UCLA's home turf before a failure in the venue's new drainage system was revealed in the weekend storms, making the playing surface unplayable.
The game was called on Tuesday when the encroaching darkness became a danger to the players and fans. The teams had played for nearly four hours when umpires stepped in and suspended the action.
The decision was made to continue the game rather than to finalize the outcome. NCAA rules stipulate that a game must be completed unless an arrangement is made before the game to allow the contest to be truncated for any reason.
Until the game is completed, the game will be omitted from the Matadors' statistics, per NCAA guidelines.
