Northridge Steamrolled in Return to Big West Play, 17-5 by Pacific

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - Cal State Northridge (22-29, 6-13) dropped the opener of a Big West match up Friday when they were blindsided by the Pacific Tigers (12-37, 4-18) in Stockton. John Parham and Ryan Pineda had two RBI each in the loss.

TS Reed notched a leadoff single in the first that raised hopes for a promising afternoon, but they were quickly dashed when Reed was picked off.

Pacific quickly collected three runs in the first and never slowed down. Northridge actually knotted the score in the second with three runs in the third but steadily fell behind the relentless Pacific offense.

The Tigers collected runs in each inning and held a 12-3 advantage in the sixth. The lead swelled to 12 when they expanded the margin to 17-5 in the eighth.

Northridge hoped to stem the tide with a two-run seventh but the Tigers were undaunted. A three-run eighth nailed Northridge to a 17-5 final score.

For Pacific, Mike Walker reached base five times as part of a 3-for-4 day. Mike McKeever also reached five times, and Kurt Wideman was 3-for-4 with three doubles. Walker paced the Tigers with four RBI.

For the Matadors, Pineda and Parham each collected two RBI for the Matadors. Seven Matadors registered in the hit column with one each.
