Box Score

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - Paul Tremlin went the distance and surrendered only a single run as Cal State Northridge (22-18, 4-7 BWC) defeated UC Davis (18-20, 3-8 BWC) 11-1 Saturday afternoon at Matador field.

Tremlin's complete game was the first of his career and CSUN's second in the past week. Before Ryan Juarez's complete-game effort against Pacific on April 24, the last Matador pitcher to go the distance was Juarez himself on April 17, 2009, against Long Beach State.

Tremlin allowed only six hits and struckout five Aggies en route to his sixth victory of the season.

The Matador offense had another stellar day at the plate as the CSUN lineup combined for 15 hits, seven of which were of the extra-base variety, including two home runs in the 11-run performance on Saturday.

After finding themselves in an early 1-0 hole, the Matadors bounced back with a single run in the bottom of the third to get themselves on the board.

After Drew Muren reached base on an infield single earlier in the inning, C.J. Belanger tripled to centerfield to bring home Muren and tie the score at 1-1.

CSUN picked up its second run in its very next set of at-bats when Dominic D'Anna crushed the first pitch of the inning over the centerfield fence, giving CSUN its first lead of the game.

Northridge would then add two more runs to increase its lead in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Piazza led off the fifth with a single to right-centerfield. Three batters later, Belanger's first double of the day would drive in Piazza and extend the Matador lead to three.

Later in the same inning, following two straight drawn walks by Justin DeMarco and D'Anna, Ryan Pineda pulled a single through the left side of the infield that allowed Belanger to score and put Northridge up 4-1 after five innings of play.

The Matadors tacked on two additional runs in the bottom of the sixth inning thanks to some timely hitting.

With two outs and two Matadors aboard, Belanger hit his second double and third extra-base hit of the afternoon up the middle, allowing TS Reed to score from second and advancing Muren from first to third.

The next batter, DeMarco, hit a well-placed ball down the first-base line that caught the bag and bounced out of the reach of the Aggie infielders. DeMarco's single allowed Muren to score from third and increased CSUN's lead to 6-1.

In their half of the seventh, the Matadors rallied for two more runs on three hits, with both runs again coming with two outs on the scoreboard.

Back-to-back doubles by Nate Ring and Piazza produced the first Matador run of the inning, and a Reed single shortly thereafter would allow Piazza to score from second to put Northridge up 8-1 after seven innings of play.

The Matadors extended their lead to 11-1 in the bottom of the eighth inning when Pineda hit his team-high 11th home run with two men aboard.

Nine different Matadors picked up a hit on the afternoon, with four having multi-hit games. Belanger and DeMarco led the offensive attack with three hits apiece, while Pineda and Piazza each added two hits of their own.

After a slow start to begin the game, Northridge's bats caught fire as the game progressed. The Matadors scored a run in each of their final six at-bats, including scoring two or more runs in each of the last four frames.

Timely hitting was also a factor today for CSUN. In four different innings, the Matadors scored runs with two outs on the board.

Northridge returns to action Sunday afternoon to complete their three game series with UC Davis. First pitch is slated for 1:00 p.m.
