NORTHRIDGE, Calif. -
CSUN baseball head coach Greg Moore, who recently finished up his first season at the helm of the program, has been named as an assistant coach for the 2014 Tournament of Stars, USA Baseball announced Wednesday. The tournament, which will take place in Cary, N.C., from June 16-22, showcases 108 baseball players vying for selection to the 2014 18U National Team.
Consisting of six teams, the Tournament of Stars gives the 18U National Team coaching staff the opportunity to evaluate players and extend invitations to the team's trials in August. The ultimate goal for the players is to be chosen to represent the United States at the 2014 COPABE 18U Pan American Championships to be played from September 5-14 in Lagos de Moreno, Mexico.
Moore will serve as pitching coach for the BRAVE team and will work alongside manager Glen Cecchini, head coach of Barbe (La.) High School, and assistant coach Kenny Fullman, head coach of Harlan (Ill.) High School. The full event schedule is yet to be announced.
The Matadors recorded 358 strikeouts on the mound in 2014, the most since the 2006 season. The pitching staff averaged 6.54 strikeouts per nine innings. Prior to taking the reins at CSUN, Moore was named one of the Top 10 Assistant Coaches in the nation by Baseball America in 2013.
