Getting to Know: Baseball Signee Joey Deceglie


Cal State Northridge baseball head coach Greg Moore announced a signing class of 10 student-athletes for the 2014-15 season in November. One of those signees is Joey Deciglie, a left-handed pitcher from Upland, Calif.

Deceglie is a product of Los Osos High School and head coach Chris Romero. Joey helped the Los Osos Rams to a 23-6 record in 2013 with 15K in 9IP. sat down with Joey to get his thoughts about becoming a Matador, life, school and everything in between…..

What can you say about the Cal State Northridge Baseball coaching staff?
I think it's a great coaching staff and I feel like it's a big family. The coaches really made me feel at ease and I knew I would get a great experience with them.

What's your first memory of Cal State Northridge?
The campus and how big it is! The new Rec Center was awesome!

What do you love most about the sport of baseball?
The competition, being on the mound feels like home to me. It is where I can be creative and dominate.

If you weren't playing baseball, what sport(s) would you be playing?
Baseball is my passion, always has been since a very young age.

What kinds of things do you like to do away from the field?
Go-karting, hanging out with friends, and lifting weights

When you attend CSUN, what do you intend to major in and why?
Business management because I would like to own my own business.

If professional baseball doesn't work out, what do you aspire to do after college?
I would love to own my own business.

Are you involved in the community? If so, what have you done?
I help Special Needs kids play baseball and help teach them the game that I love.

What's the best advice you've ever been given and by whom?
Never let somebody tell you who you can and can't be. My dad

What number have you worn in high school? Does it have any significance to you?
25 is my favorite number.

If you could meet any three people, dead or alive, who would they be?
Babe Ruth, Joe Dimaggio and Jon Lester.

What is your favorite pre-game meal?
Pasta, Any kind of Pasta.

What is your favorite pre-game music?
Rap and reggae

If you could visit one country you've never been to, what would that be and why?
Italy because of the food! I love Italian food!!!

Who was your favorite athlete growing up?
Derek Jeter

What is your favorite baseball team?
New York Yankees

What sporting event would you most like to see the most?
Yankees and Red Sox ALCS GAME.

What's the most important thing Cal State Northridge fans should know about you?
I love winning, and I'm looking forward to helping CSUN win a Big West Championship.
