Matadors to Host Alumni Game on February 4

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. –

The 2012 Cal State Northridge Baseball Alumni Game will take place on Saturday, Feb. 4 at 1 p.m. at Matador Field, head coach Matt Curtis announced Tuesday. The annual event will give family, friends and fans the chance to enjoy a day at the ballpark watching a scrimmage between the current Matador players and their alumni counterparts.

"We brought back the alumni game in 2011 and the response was tremendous," Curtis said.

The game will be the second under the direction of Coach Curtis, whose squad defeated the alumni team 13-0 last season. Some alumni expected to attend are Kameron Loe (Milwaukee Brewers), Leo Rosales (Arizona Diamondbacks), Bill Murphy, Chuckie Fick, Drew Muren and Carlos Gonzalez, Jr. Murphy pitched for two seasons with the Toronto Blue Jays, Fick competed in the Pan-American Games for Team USA in 2011, and Muren and Gonzalez were each selected in last June's MLB Draft.

"We hope to build on last year's turnout, and bring back even more alumni who want to reconnect with each other and the program, while helping us kick-off the 2012 season," Curtis added.

The festivities will start with the Northridge alumni taking batting practice at 11:30 a.m. Fans are encouraged to come to the field early to connect with the players and coaches before the first pitch of the featured exhibition at 1 p.m.

The Matadors open the 2012 regular season with a road trip to Sacramento State for a three-game series with the Hornets beginning on Friday, Feb. 17. First pitch in the state capital is scheduled for 2 p.m. Northridge's home opener is set for Tuesday, Feb. 21 at 2 p.m. against cross-town rival UCLA.
