Jacob Petersen earned his first win of 2012 in the finale at Sacramento State. He pitched 5.2 innings and walked only one batter in the contest. Petersen struck out six hitters in three innings of work against Washington (2/27).


Jacob Petersen finished his sophomore season at Northridge with a 3-0 record and a 7.17 ERA in 37.2 innings pitched. He struck out 31 batters while walking 15 in 20 appearances (two starts). Petersen started on the mound and threw 4.0 innings, striking out four batters vs. Seattle University (2/19 Gm. 2), got a no-decision in 2.2 innings against Valparaiso (2/27 Gm. 2), and came on in relief and pitched one inning to earn his first win of the year against Lamar (3/6). He came on in relief to throw 5.1 innings and struck out seven to earn the win over Lafayette (3/12 Gm. 2), pitched 3.1 innings out of the bullpen to earn the win over Sacramento State (3/18 Gm. 2), and pitched 4.2 innings in relief and struck out three at UC Irvine (4/2). Petersen pitched a total of three perfect innings and struck out two in the series at Cal Poly (4/15 to 4/17), threw 2.0 innings and struck out three at UC Davis (5/1), pitched two scoreless innings with one strikeout at San Diego State (5/10), and pitched 0.1 inning and was on the mound for the final defensive out of the season against Cal State Fullerton (5/29).


Jacob Petersen finished with a 1-0 record and 7.11 ERA in his 16 appearances on the mound during his first season at CSUN. He was named the starting pitcher vs. UC Riverside (5/25) and threw a total of 19.0 innings, striking out 13 batters this year. He possessed over a 3:1 strikeout to walk ratio as he allowed only four bases on balls throughout the entire season. He struck out all three batters faced vs. Bethune-Cookman (2/19), struck out both batters faced against Connecticut (3/7), and threw for 1.1 innings and did not allow a hit at LMU (3/13). He pitched a season-high 3.0 innings at Seattle (3/21), struck out one batter in his one inning pitched vs. Sacramento State (3/27), allowed only one hit in his one inning pitched vs. Albany (3/29), and threw for one inning and struck out one batter at Pepperdine (4/6). Petersen retired both batters he faced in order vs. SDSU (4/13), threw one full inning vs. UC Davis (5/2), and threw 1.0 inning at UC Riverside (5/14). He threw 2.0 innings, allowed one hit, and struckout one batter at UC Riverside (5/16), threw 2.0 innings, allowing only two hits at UNLV (5/18), made his first start as a Matador vs. UC Riverside (5/25), and threw one inning of no-hit baseball at Cal State Fullerton (5/30).


Petersen graduated with a 3.87 GPA in 2009. He earned six letters as a member of the football team for one season, cross country team for one season, and baseball team for four seasons. He was a wide receiver for the football team and an outfielder, pitcher, and first baseman for the baseball team and was elected team captain during his sophomore, junior, and senior seasons. For his success on the diamond, Petersen earned earned All-League honors all four seasons and First Team All-County honors for two seasons. His batting average increased all four seasons from .360 as a freshman, to .420 in his sophomore season, to .465 as a junior, to .572 his senior season.
