2012
Alex Muren was the Opening Day starter and earned the win after pitching a career-high 6.2 innings at Sacramento State. He allowed just four hits and struck out two on the way to the victory. He set a new career high with his one-hitter in a scheduled seven-inning game against Northwestern in game one of a doubleheader (2/25). Muren matched a career high with five strikeouts against San Diego (3/3). He pitched 7.0 innings and struck out three to get the win against Indiana (3/10). Muren went 7.0 innings for the third time in a win at Portland (3/16 - Gm. 2) and struck out three. He set new career highs in a complete game win at St. Mary’s (3/25 - Gm. 1) with 9.0 innings pitched and six strikeouts. Muren struck out five in 5.2 innings against #27 Cal Poly (4/14 - Game 2) and had a pair of strikeouts in 5.1 innings against Long Beach?State (4/27). He threw another 5.2 innings at UC?Riverside with three strikeouts but did not receive a decision (5/4).?In his final outing of the year, Muren went 7.2 innings with four strikeouts at Pacific (5/25).
2011
Alex Muren spent the majority of his sophomore season as a pitcher for Northridge, earning a 2-1 record and a 4.69 ERA (fourth best on the team) in 13 appearances (five starts). He struck out 22 hitters in 40.1 innings and also had a double and two RBI in 12 games as a batter. He got the first hit of the 2011 season for the Matadors and hit in three straight games vs. Seattle University (2/18 - 2/19). Muren went 1-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored in Game 2 vs. Seattle (2/19), came on in relief and pitched 2.0 innings to earn the win against Valparaiso (2/27 Gm. 2), and started and threw 5.2 innings, giving up one hit against San Francisco (3/5). He pitched 5.0 innings to get the win over Lafayette (3/12 Gm. 1), set season highs with 6.0 innings pitched and three strikeouts in a no decision against Loyola Marymount (3/27), pitched 3.0 scoreless innings in relief and struckout four against Pacific (4/22), and tossed 3.1 innings and struckout three against UC Santa Barbara (5/8).
2010
In his first season at CSUN, Alex Muren spent time both as a position player and pitcher. On the mound he finished with a 2-1 record, 5.76 ERA, and started in eight of the nine games thrown this season. He threw a total of 25.0 innings, fanning 16 batters, and at the plate he started in eight of his 20 games played, finishing with a .244 batting average. Six of his ten hits this season were for extra bases as he hit four doubles, one triple, and a home run in his 41 at-bats and he drove in six runs and scored on four occasions. Muren singled in his debut at-bat as a Matador vs. Bethune-Cookman (2/19) and made his pitching debut and threw 2.0 innings at San Diego, striking out two in the process (2/23). He started against Connecticut and allowed only five hits as he fanned five batters for the no-decision (3/8). He started his third game of the season and threw a season-high 6.1 innings to earn his first win as a Matador vs. UNLV (3/16) and threw 1.2 innings and gave up zero hits at Seattle (3/21). He earned his second win of the season and allowed only two hits vs. Albany (3/29), struck out three batters in five innings vs. Cal Poly (4/18), and hit his second double of the season at UC Riverside (5/16). Muren turned in his best performance at the plate of the season season by falling only a home run shy of hitting for the cycle at UNLV and set new career and season highs with five at-bats, three hits, and drove in his first RBI, and hit both his first double and triple as a Matador at UNLV (5/18). He had a hit, drove in an run, and was hit by a pitch vs. Long Beach State (5/23), was hit by a pitch twice vs. San Diego (5/24), and hit his first career home run as a Matador and drove in two runs vs. UC Riverside (5/25).
RAMONA HIGH SCHOOL
Earned four letters as a member of the Bulldog baseball team as an outfielder and a pitcher from 2006-09 and named captain during his senior season. He was a quarterback, punter, and kicker during his two years on the football team. Muren earned a spot in Rivals.com top-100 high school baseball prospects (#79) during the 2009 season and was named Most Valuable Player by his football teammates in 2007 and earned numerous baseball honors including All-League from 2007-09, Most Valuable Player in '09, All-American recognition in '09, and was named to the All-CIF North County team in '08 and '09. His football team was league champion in '06, and he was a member of two league championship-winning baseball squads in '06 and '08. Muren stole a school-record 53 total bases in four seasons and finished his senior season batting .516.
