2012

Marty Bowen singled and scored twice on Opening Day at Sacramento?State and also scored a run in the series finale. He went 3-for-4 with an RBI in game two of a doubleheader win over Northwestern and also drove in a run against Washington. Bowen batted 3-for-5 with an RBI against San Francisco (3/2) and also had an RBI at San Diego State (3/4). He went 2-for-4 with a double in the opener vs. Indiana (3/9) and hit his first home run and went 2-for-2 with a sacrifice and two runs scored in the finale (3/11). In the series at St. Mary’s (3/23-25), Bowen scored two runs and reached base four times. At #13 Cal State Fullerton (3/31), he went 2-for-3 with a run scored. Bowen went 1-for-4 with an RBI at UC?Santa Barbara (4/6) and had two hits against CSU?Bakersfield (4/10). In the finale against #27 Cal Poly (4/15), Bowen went 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. He went 3-for-4 with a solo home run, his second of the year, in a win over CSU?Bakersfield (4/24) and stole the first base of his career in the finale against Long Beach?State (4/29). Bowen went 2-for-5 with an RBI in the series opener at UC?Riverside (5/4). He laid down a suicide squeeze bunt that scored an insurance run in the eighth inning of a win over UC?Irvine (5/12). In the finale against UC?Davis, Bowen reached on a fielder’s choice that scored two runs to tie the game (5/20).

2011

In his second year for the Matadors, Marty Bowen earned All-Big West Second Team honors after finishing with a team-high .320 batting average. He started 46 games this season and appeared in a total of 52, collecting 55 hits and 23 RBI in 172 at-bats and hit five doubles, one home run and scored 16 times, and also threw out 12 runners on the basepaths from behind the plate in 2011. Bowen had 13 multiple hit games, including four-hit days against Valparaiso (2/28) and Bakersfield (4/9), and five multiple RBI contests, and started behind the plate and had a hit, RBI and run scored vs. Seattle University (2/19 Gm. 2). He went a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with three RBI vs. Valparaiso (2/28) and hit in seven-straight games vs. Seattle University, Valparaiso, New Mexico State, Lamar and San Francisco (2/19 - 3/5). Bowen rebounded from a hitting slump by going 3-for-4 with an RBI against Lafayette (3/13) and went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored at UC Irvine (4/2) and hit 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored at UNLV (4/5). He went 4-for-5 with two RBI at Bakersfield (4/9) for his second four-hit game of the year and went 3-for-4 with two RBI in the victory over Pacific (4/21). Bowen had three hits and two RBI in the series at UC Davis (4/29 - 5/1) and went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run, his first of the season, against UC Santa Barbara (5/7). He had three hits and one double in the series at Long Beach State (5/20 - 5/22) and went 1-for-4 with a two-run double (5/27) and 2-for-4 with a double and run scored (5/29) against No. 9 Cal State Fullerton.

2010

Marty Bowen caught 27 games for the Matadors during his debut season, and was named to the starting line-up on 14 of those occasions. In his 59 at-bats, Bowen scored four times, had 16 hits, hit four doubles, belted a home run vs. Connecticut (3/7) in his first career start as a Matador, and drove in 11 runs. He had two multiple RBI games and built a seven game hit streak at one point of the season. He batted 2-for-4 with three RBIs and hit a home run in his first career start as a Matador vs. Connecticut (3/7) and was the first Matador since Brett Blumenthal (1/27/06 at Arizona State) to hit a home run in his first career start as a Matador. He batted 2-for-4 and drove in another three runs the following day vs. Connecticut (3/8) and went 2-for-4 in back-to-back games at LMU (3/12) and vs. LMU (3/14). Bowen hit a double in back-to-back-to-back games vs. UNLV (3/16) and at Seattle (3/19, 3/20, Gm. 1) and drove in a run in back-to-back games vs. UNLV (3/16) and at Seattle (3/19). He hit a double and drove in one run vs. Albany (3/29) and hit a single in his only at-bat as a pinch hitter vs. UC Davis (5/1). Bowen was hit by a pitch at UNLV (5/18) and finished with two hits and drove in a run vs. San Diego (5/24).

EL CAMINO HIGH SCHOOL

Marty Bowen graduated in 2009 with a 3.0 GPA and competed for coach Joe Gonzales all four years as a catcher for the El Camino baseball team from 2006-09. In 2007, Bowen earned team MVP and Second Team All-Avocado League accolades and was named team MVP and earned a spot on the First Team All-Avocado League team in 2008. He finished his senior season by earning a number of honors and accolades including First Team All-Palomar League, team MVP, Second Team All-San Diego CIF, Union-Tribune All-Academic Team Honor Roll, and was named one of the top-ten players in the San Diego Section by the Union-Tribune as he finished his senior season with a .402 batting average, eight home runs, 29 RBI's, and 36 hits.
