Men's Student-Athlete of the Week: Armando Gutierrez, Soccer

Cal State Northridge senior Armando Gutierrez scored his first goal of the season and second of his career to lift the visting Matadors to a 2-1 victory over UC Irvine. Coming off a free kick in the 80th minute of action, Gutierrez deposited a headed pass from teammate Trevor Morley to help CSUN clinch a berth in the Big West Tournament. 

Originally from North Hollywood, Calif., Gutierrez has started all 16 contests on defense for the Matadors in 2012. He has anchored a defensive unit that has posted seven shutouts and held opponents to less than one goal per game on average.
