Midfielder Rafael Garcia was selected by the LA Galaxy with the 19th pick of the second round (38th overall) in the 2012 MLS Supplemental Draft on Tuesday. In home victories over UC Irvine and UC Riverside, Sharpe averaged 17.0 points, 4.5 rebounds and 5.0 steals as CSUN improved to 7-7 for the season.

2011 Men's Soccer Year in Review
Another season has come and gone for the Matadors men's soccer team. After a 2010 season that ended with a 3-14-2 record, Northridge was able to turn things around this season as it went 8-8-3 and finished fifth in the Big West Conference at 4-4-2. The Matadors fell a point shy of reaching the postseason in 2011, but had a much-improved offensive attack and defensive scheme. A total of seven players were named to All-Conference teams, tied for the second most in the Big West.

The Cal State Northridge women's soccer team (6-9-2, 4-3-1 Big West) lost 3-1 at UC Riverside Thursday night in its final Big West Conference match of the year. An early Matador goal did not stand up and now Northridge must await the weekend's results to see whether or not theywill participate in next week's Big West Tournament.

Matadors Play No. 9 UC Irvine to Scoreless Draw
Goalkeeper Michael Abalos made six saves and the Cal State Northridge defense held tight for 110 minutes as the Matadors (7-7-2, 3-3-1 Big West) played the No. 9 UC Irvine Anteaters (13-4-1, 5-2-1 Big West) to a scoreless draw on Wednesday night at Matador Soccer Field. Following an unbeaten two-match homestand, Cal State Northridge (10-10, 4-4 Big West) heads back on the road for four of its next six matches beginning Friday at defending Big West champion Cal State Fullerton (9-12, 4-5 Big West). Late Heroics Lead Matadors to Upset Victory over No. 7 UCLA
With two goals in the final eight minutes of regulation, the Cal State Northridge Matadors (7-7-1, 3-3-0 Big West) rallied for a come-from-behind win over the No. 7 UCLA Bruins (10-4-1, 5-0-0 Pac-12) 3-2 on Saturday night at Drake Stadium in Westwood, Calif. The victory was the first in history for the Matadors at UCLA as they moved to 2-13-3 against the Bruins all-time. The only other victory came in a 3-0 shutout at Matador Soccer Field on Sept. 29, 2009.

Matadors Open 2011 Cross Country Saturday at Asics/Fullerton Invitational
Cal State Northridge cross country opens up the 2011 season this Saturday, Sept. 3 as the Matador men and women will run in the Asics/Fullerton Opener at Carbon Canyon Regional Park in Brea, Calif. The 2011 opening meet is also the first for head coach Avery Anderson who takes over for Don Strametz who retired after 31 seasons with the women's team and 26 with the men.

Matadors Face UNLV, #2 Akron in 2011 Labor Day Classic
The Cal State Northridge Matadors host the 2011 Labor Day Classic at Matador Soccer Field on Thursday, Sept. 1 and Saturday, Sept. 3. Northridge will face UNLV on Thursday and will wrap up the invitational with a match against the No. 2 Akron Zips on Saturday night. All four matches in the Classic will be broadcast online via GameTracker, which can be accessed by clicking on the Tournament Central link on the men's soccer page at GoMatadors.com. Saturday's showdown with Akron will also include a radio broadcast, featuring a halftime interview with former Matador and current LA Galaxy defender Sean Franklin.

Flowers Enjoys All-American Summer
It’s been just over a year since Tairia Flowers was named the softball head coach at Cal State Northridge. In those 12 months, the former All-American and Olympian has experienced a series of transitions, from the increase in responsibilities associated with being a first-year head coach to assuming a new coaching role with Team USA.

Yossi Raz Promoted to Associate Head Coach of Men's Soccer
Yossi Raz has been promoted to the title of associate head coach of the men’s soccer team, the program announced this summer. Raz is entering his seventh season as a member of head coach Terry Davila’s staff in 2011 after serving the first six as an assistant coach.

Texas Posts 5-1 Victory over Northridge
The Cal State Northridge women's soccer team (0-3) lost 5-1 to Texas Sunday afternoon in a non-conference match in Austin, Texas. Melissa Fernandez registered the Matadors' first goal of the season, but CSUN was unable to stop the Longhorns' offense in the inaugural women's soccer game to be broadcast on ESPN's Longhorn Network.

The Cal State Northridge women's soccer team (0-2) lost 1-0 to Baylor Friday night in a non-conference match in Waco, Texas. Natalie Huggins tallied the game's only goal in the ninth minute of action to lift the Bears over the visiting Matadors.

Cal State Northridge Matador outfielder Adam Barry has been named to the Summer Collegiate All-American Team by Perfect Game USA, the organization announced Thursday. Barry was one of 48 national players selected to the team and one of just three players from the Big West Conference to earn the honor.

The Cal State Northridge Matadors flew out of the gates on Saturday night, scoring two goals in the first 23 minutes en route to a 5-0 victory over the visiting Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros in a friendly at Matador Soccer Field. Five different Matadors scored and junior defender Joe Franco registered three assists in the contest.

Matadors Add Yarden Azulay to Recruiting Class
The Cal State Northridge Matadors have added Yarden Azulay to the 2011 recruiting class, head coach Terry Davila announced Thursday. Azulay, from Jordan Valley, Israel, will become the second Israeli-born player and third from overseas on the squad, joining defender Yuval Barak and goalkeeper Manabu Kaji.
