Tom Ford was named Associate Athletics Director for External Relations on July 24, 2007.
Ford's expertise includes program development, fund raising, corporate sponsorship, strategic planning, and marketing.
Ford, a 1977 graduate with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from the University of Pacific, has twice served as an Athletic Director, first at the University of Houston (1984-86) and at the University of California, Irvine (1990-92). At UC Irvine, Ford increased annual giving to the athletics program through the "Team Concept" fund raising campaign, and promoted increased emphasis on gender equity, and NCAA rules education and compliance.
From 1992 through 2004, Ford worked at the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) in Overland Park, Kansas, first as Assistant Executive Director and later as Associate Executive Director. Ford's list of successes at the NABC was outstanding. As the Assistant Executive Director, Ford worked in all aspects of operations and management at the NABC including public relations, long/short term strategic planning, fund raising, membership benefits, and NCAA legislation issues. Ford helped to establish a multi-million dollar corporate Sponsorship Program and developed action plans to generate increased revenue that incorporated marketing, promotions, licensing, merchandising, and corporate sponsorships. Ford also negotiated, approved and monitored television/radio broadcast rights contracts at selected NABC events.
As Associate Executive Director at the NABC, Ford directed all aspects of a national capital fund raising campaign to raise $30 million for the NABC Foundation. Ford also served as co-leader of the Coaches vs Cancer national campaign raised more than $21 million.
Since 2004, Ford was Managing Partner of the National Purchasing Alliance (LLC) and National Camp Alliance (LLC).
During his tenure in higher education and athletics, Ford has also worked at the University of the Pacific (1968-79) as Executive Director of the Pacific Athletic Association, was the Business Manager of the McGeorge School of Law (UOP), Assistant Director of Athletics/Fund Development (1979-82) and Associate Director of Athletics (1982-84) at the University of Houston, and Director of Consulting Services and Director of Program Development at Raycom Sports (1986-88) in Charlotte, NC. At the University of Arizona (1989-90), Ford served as the Manager of Extended University's program in the Greater Phoenix area.
Ford also served on numerous NCAA and conference committees. They include Regional Tournament Director (1986) for the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament, the first and second round Host Site Director for the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament (1985), Vice-President of the Texas Association of State College Athletic Directors (1986), and the Chairman of the Big West Conference Basketball Tournament Committee (1991-92).
Ford has also been a speaker at several National Athletic Fundraising Conventions and authored "Athletic Fund Raising under the Team Concept" which has appeared in the NCAA Manual.
