Fan Fest ...
It's not very often that a sports fan at The Matadome gets a standing ovation but that's exactly what happened at the recent Cal State Northridge-UCLA women's basketball game .. One of the fans in attendance was Marine Lance Corporal Raymond Warren, who suffered minor brain damage and shrapnel wounds from an explosion while on duty in Iraq in 2004 ... Warren was on guard at an Iraqi police station when a grenade was launched in his direction ... Warren has since undergone extensive medical treatment, and was medically retired from the Marine Corps two years ago ... When his story was told on the public address system at The Matadome, a crowd of nearly 1,000 spectators rose in unison and gave Warren a standing ovation ... Clearly, Warren was touched by the applause as the crowd warmly expressed its admiration and respect ... Warren was able to attend the game thanks to the efforts of The Wounded Warrior Project, the local ROTC of UCLA and CSUN, and the local VFW ... The WWP seeks to assist men and women of the armed forces who have been severely injured during the conflicts in Iraq, Afghanistan, and other locations around the world.

Did You Know ...
A couple weeks ago we told you about men's head golf coach Jim Bracken, who has starred in several television shows and movies since the age of five ... There is another actor in the athletic department ... Head baseball coach Steve Rousey briefly appeared in the movie, Mr. Baseball, which starred Tom Selleck in 1992 ... Rousey appears for about 60 seconds in the early part of the movie throwing a baseball to home plate ... Rousey says he was lucky to appear in that portion of the movie after the original pitcher, Kirk McCaskill (formerly with the Angels) failed to appear for the movie shoot on that day ... Rousey was playing an extra in the movie that day and when the director asked if anybody knew how to throw a baseball, Rousey volunteered ... Rousey played the part to perfection ... After all, Rousey was a star pitcher on the Cal State Fullerton baseball team during the early 1980's, and helped the Titans to the NCAA title in 1984.
