NORTHRIDGE, Calif. -
On Thursday, Oct. 17, Cal State Northridge’s Athletic Director, Dr. Brandon E. Martin will host the Inaugural AD 3v3 Basketball Tournament at the Student Recreation Center (SRC) on campus. The tournament will start at 5 p.m. at the Red Ring Courts in the SRC and is open to all CSUN students, faculty and staff.
The AD 3v3 Tournament is a 32 team single-elimination tournament
and all registered participants will receive an AD 3v3 Tournament
t-shirt. The winning team will receive a VIP trip (transportation
included) to see the Matadors Men’s Basketball team play at
the University of Southern California on November 12.
The tournament is a partnership between the Athletics Department and the SRC and will be managed by Intramural Coordinator Kristofer Newsome.
“It is important for Athletics to be more involved with
campus life because the experiences students have outside the
classroom are what enhances their connection to CSUN," said
Newsome. "The stronger the connection between the students and
CSUN, the greater the opportunity for the students to be more
involved, supportive, and encouraging others to be proud to be a
Matador. I think the Athletic Director’s 3v3 Basketball
Challenge is a tremendous introduction to the fun and excitement
that CSUN Athletics has to offer, but also allows the students to
find out that the Athletic Director, Dr. Martin, is a real person
and interested in the students. I do not believe too many other
campuses around the country can say that their AD plays basketball
with the student body."
The AD 3v3 was the brainchild of Dr. Martin, whose goal is to get the students on campus engaged with Matador Athletics and build some fan affinity for the basketball teams. In addition to the trip to see the Matadors play at USC, the winning team will win lunch with Dr. Martin.
Team registration is free and students, faculty and staff can sign their teams up at IMleagues.com/csun.
