Lizzie Gomez Named CSUN Associate Athletics Director (Internal Operations)
Northridge, Calif. – Lizzie Gomez, who has served as the
Director of Compliance at the University of Oklahoma since January,
2011, has been hired as the Associate Athletics Director for
Internal Operations at Cal State Northridge.
Her appointment was announced on Thursday by Dr. Brandon Martin, CSUN’s Director of intercollegiate Athletics.
“We are thrilled to welcome Lizzie to the CSUN Athletics family,” said Dr. Martin. “Lizzie brings a unique set of skills and knowledge that will elevate our compliance and internal operational units immediately. I anticipate Lizzie having a significant impact on our comprehensive excellence agenda.”
Since 2006, Gomez has had a multitude of duties in all areas of NCAA compliance at the University of Maryland and the University of Oklahoma that included specializations in such areas as admissions, eligibility, roster management, recruiting, and financial aid. As Director of Compliance at Oklahoma, Gomez was responsible for the daily operations of financial aid, scholarships and provided compliance rules education and interpretations to student athletes, coaches, staff and administrators. Before leaving Oklahoma, Gomez was also chief compliance consultant at Headington Hall, a $75 million residence that opened this Fall.
Gomez graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sports Management from Flager College in 2006. Gomez played on the Flager College women’s volleyball team. Her honors included being named a NAIA All-American Scholar-Athlete. In addition, Gomez will be receiving her Masters degree in Education, Adult and Higher Education’ Student Affairs from the University of Oklahoma in December.
Gomez began her career in January (2006) as a compliance intern at the University of Maryland where her initial responsibilities included creating Maryland’s official athletic department compliance website and publishing the compliance newsletter.
Six months after Gomez began working as an intern at the University of Maryland, she was promoted to Assistant Director of Compliance where she undertook a number of important responsibilities that included working with Undergraduate Admissions and the Office of International Services to evaluate academic transcripts for admissibility; coordinate with the NCAA Eligibility Center to ensure incoming student-athlete prospects meet initial eligibility requirements, and assist in the execution of all National Letter of Intents.
Another promotion followed at the University of Maryland by being named Associate Director in July, 2008. Her duties included providing compliance rules education to approximately 700 student athletes and 27 sports annually with other duties that included overseeing all NCAA initial and continuing eligibility requirements, and roster management.
