NORTHRIDGE, Calif. –
This summer the CSUN Matadors introduced a new brand identity campaign, The Rise of the Matadors, which includes plans to upgrade athletic venues on campus. The first and most visible of the upgrades comes in the form of a redesigned basketball and volleyball floor, dubbed “The Blacktop at The Matadome.”
CSUN’s fall teams have already started practicing on the floor, which is unlike any other in college athletics. The Blacktop at The Matadome includes the new Matador logo at midcourt and updated graphics and will be used by CSUN’s four indoor programs for competition in 2014-15. The new floor was conceptualized and designed in house.
“The Blacktop at The Matadome is bold and unique and gives our students and fans another reason to be excited for our basketball and volleyball seasons,” said Dr. Martin. “We have a court in The Matadome now that is one-of-a-kind and I’m excited for our supporters to come to campus and see it this fall.”
Early this fall CSUN Faculty and staff will be invited to enjoy lunch at The Blacktop. They will be able to see the new floor in person, meet the CSUN Basketball and Volleyball coaching staffs and have a chance to meet some of the student-athletes that will compete on The Blacktop starting this fall. Attendees will also have the opportunity to take photos on the new floor.
The Blacktop at The Matadome will host its first public event in early October when the Matadors put on Matador Madness to mark the opening of the men’s and women’s basketball seasons. It will then make its television debut on Friday, Oct. 10 when the CSUN Women’s Volleyball program takes on Hawai’i at 7:30 p.m. on Fox Sports West Prime Ticket.
