Janet Lucas Named Senior Associate A.D./Senior Woman Administrator
Cal State Northridge Athletic Director Dick Dull announced today the appointment of Janet Lucas to the post of Senior Associate Athletic Director/Senior Woman Administrator after the completion of a national search. Lucas will begin her tenure at the beginning of June. She replaces Grace Collins who retired from Cal State Northridge in late August of 2003.

"We are privileged to have been able to secure the professional services of Janet Lucas," Dull said. "Her resume reflects a comprehensive knowledge of those areas traditionally within the scope of a Senior Associate Athletic Director/Senior Woman's Administrator, a knowledge obtained from 15 years in the similar position at James Madison University. Janet made an exceptional impression on everyone involved in the search process. We are excited that she has agreed to join the Cal State Northridge family."

Lucas comes to Cal State Northridge from James Madison University where she has spent the past 15 years. While at JMU, Lucas' overall duties have included the supervision and evaluation of intercollegiate sports programs and coaching staff members (varying from 12 to 21 programs); supervision of a comprehensive compliance program relative to NCAA, Colonial Athletic Association and University regulations, including the supervision of the Director of Compliance; overseeing the eligibility certification process for over 600 athletes; managing the areas of athletic and foundation scholarships including budget development and monitoring; coordinating admissions and housing for student-athletes; overseeing special projects such as salary reviews and Title IX audits, and supervising the areas of sports medicine, the athletic business office, equipment room, and human resources at various times.

"I am extremely honored to become a part of the CSUN community," Lucas said. "I commend the commitment and vision established by President Koester and Mr. Dull relative to the development and direction of the Matador athletic program. I look forward to being an integral part of that future."

Lucas also brings eight years of experience at the University of Maine to Cal State Northridge. While at Maine, Lucas served as the Assistant Director of Athletics for Finance/SWA and prior to that was the Athletic Business Manager for the Black Bears. Lucas was responsible for budget development and supervision, the athletics scholarship program, ticket office management, revenue development and personnel supervision. Lucas also coordinated post-season opportunities and travel for baseball including five College World Series appearances, football and for ice hockey.

"The opportunity to work at a quality university, build on the outstanding athletic tradition that has been established, and assist with moving the University forward to an unprecedented level of athletic excellence is very exciting," Lucas added. "I will work diligently to provide an integrated, enriching, and positive student-athlete experience that incorporates academic, athletic, and personal success."

A 1979 graduate of Wake Forest University, Lucas received her bachelor of science degree in physical education. She then went on to earn her master of sports administration degree from Ohio University in 1980. She is affiliated with six national organizations, and is an active member of the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics, the National Association of Collegiate Women Athletic Administrators and the National Association of Athletics Compliance Coordinators, just to name a few.
