Who plays the toughest schedule among the 20 sports teams at Cal State Northridge? ... Hard to argue against the Matador women's water polo team ... They have no easy games, no cream puffs, no easy wins ... It's a schedule dominated by nationally-ranked, top quality teams week after week ... Already this year, the Matadors have faced top-ranked and three-time defending NCAA champion UCLA, #2 Stanford, #3 USC, #4 Hawai'I, #5 San Diego State, #6 California, #7 Arizona State, #8 UC Irvine, #9 San Jose State, #10 UC Davis, #11 Loyola Marymount, #12 Michigan, #13 Long Beach State, #16 Santa Clara, #17 Indiana, #18 UC Santa Barbara, and #19 UC San Diego ... Don Strametz quietly goes about his business, and he's getting the job done ... Strametz, the longtime Matador Director of Ttrack & Field, simply puts together top quality teams and assembles great individual talent year after year ... Already this year, success is again the norm ... In the spring of 2008, DaShalle Andrews captured the NCAA outdoor long jump title, and during the 2008 NCAA Indoor Championships, freshman Reindell Cole won the national title in the long jump with the fifth longest jump in the world this year ... And last week at the prestigous Texas Relays, Matador senior Justin Johnson broke the 26-year school record in the decathlon with a two-day total of 7,473 points ... The old record was 7,424 by Ken Terry in 1982 ... Strametz says he is blessed with an outstanding coaching staff of Bridget Pearson, Seilala Sua and Avery Anderson ... Cal State Northridge hosts the Big West Track & Field Championships on May 16-17, followed by the NCAA West Regionals on May 30-31.
