NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - An award ceremony created by student-athletes to recognize campus individuals on their success in intercollegiate athletics, the inaugural NESPY (Northridge Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly Awards) Awards will take place on January 31, 2010.
Admission to this red carpet event will begin at 6:00 p.m. at the Northridge Center located at the University Student Union on the campus of Cal State Northridge, with a portraits ceremony scheduled to take place at 6:30 p.m.
With the voice of the Matadors, Bill Courtland serving as the Master of Ceremonies, a number of awards will be handed out to various student-athletes, teams, and staff members for their success and achievements earned throughout the 2009 season.
Organized by the Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC), the NESPY's are open to all members of the campus community, their friends, families, and supporters of Northridge Athletics.
"The NESPY's were created this year by the SAAC. We are hoping to create an opportunity for student athletes and staff to come together in a way that publically acknowledges their accomplishments," stated Cody Pearce, CSUN alum and former member of the track and field team.
"We want to give our student-athletes, fans, family, and staff the chance to see each other in a more formal, personal setting."
Light refreshments will be served to all those in attendance at this semi-formal event, with suggested attire of Matador colors of red, black, or white.
